Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need prior security experience to take this course?
No prior experience is required. This course is open to anyone who meets the eligibility requirements and wants to become a licensed armed security officer in Florida.
What are the eligibility requirements?
You must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and have no disqualifying criminal history. A valid Florida Class D license is also required.
How long is the Class G license valid?
The Class G license is valid for 2 years. To maintain it, you must complete an annual 4-hour requalification course with live fire.
What does the course include?
The course includes 28 hours of classroom & range instruction, live fire range qualification consisting of 3-cycles of 48 rounds, and covers Florida laws, firearm safety, and use-of-force protocols.
Do I need to bring my own firearm?
No. If you need a firearm for qualification you may rent it in class $20. If you have your own firearm, you may qualify with it — just let us know in advance. Additionally, you may purchase your 3-boxes of ammunition in class or at the range.
Where are classes held?
We offer classroom training in Clermont, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando. The range is scheduled at local range and from time to time we have a flexible schedule. Online registration is quick and easy.
What happens after I complete the course?
You’ll receive a certificate of completion and guidance on submitting your application to the Florida Division of Licensing. We’ll walk you through the next steps.
Are there any other requirments to obtain my companion Class G license?
Yes, there are other requirements. You must vist a doctor and get a basic physical (no lab work required). The doctor will sign the portion of the application that will be issued to you in class. Lastly, you will have an application fee that includes: your fingerprints for your background check & photo for your 2-year icense
